How This Tool Works

The Health Stack Builder walks you through two steps to create a personalized supplement plan. In Step 1, you describe your pet: type (dog or cat), size, age, and activity level. In Step 2, you select health goals like joint support, digestion, skin and coat, calming, immune support, heart health, or cognitive function. The tool then matches your pet's profile to a curated list of supplements for each goal, calculates weight-appropriate doses, assigns an evidence rating (strong, moderate, or emerging), and totals the estimated daily and monthly cost. Supplements that serve multiple goals (like fish oil for skin, heart, and brain) are included once to avoid duplication. The result is a ready-to-use supplement card list you can copy, share, or save via email.

Example Scenario

A medium-sized adult dog (25 to 60 lbs) with moderate activity who needs joint support and calming help would receive a stack including Glucosamine + Chondroitin (1,000mg, strong evidence), MSM (500mg, moderate evidence), Green-Lipped Mussel (500mg, strong evidence), L-Theanine (100mg, moderate evidence), Melatonin (3mg, moderate evidence), and L-Tryptophan (250mg, emerging evidence). The total estimated cost would be around $1.43 per day, or about $43 per month. Each supplement card shows the dose, daily cost, evidence level, and a short description of the benefit. You can then use the Dosage Calculator for more precise weight-based dosing or the Interaction Checker to verify the full combination is safe.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "evidence rating" mean?

Each supplement is labeled Strong, Moderate, or Emerging based on the quality and quantity of published veterinary research. Strong means multiple controlled studies support the benefit. Moderate means supportive evidence exists but may be limited in scope. Emerging means early research is promising but more studies are needed. We recommend prioritizing strong-evidence supplements if you are on a budget.

Can I use this for cats?

Yes. Select "Cat" in Step 1, and the tool adjusts doses and supplement selections accordingly. Cats have different dosing requirements and some supplements (like certain essential oils or high-dose fish oil) need special care. The tool accounts for species-specific differences in metabolism and safety.

Are the cost estimates accurate?

Costs reflect average per-serving prices from mainstream brands on Amazon and Chewy. Actual prices vary by brand, form, and retailer. The estimates are designed for monthly budget planning rather than exact-to-the-penny accuracy. Autoship and subscription programs typically reduce costs by 5 to 15%.

Do I need all the supplements in the stack?

No. The stack represents a comprehensive approach to your selected health goals. You can start with the strong-evidence supplements and add moderate or emerging options over time. Many pet owners begin with 2 to 3 core supplements and expand based on observed results.
